While nothing can totally prepare you for childbirth, there are several things you can do to help you feel at ease.
Journal
Spend a few minutes each day focusing on your baby, writing down your feelings, questions, and thoughts for the future. This can be a great way to connect with your baby.
Childbirth Education
Taking a class will help you feel prepared for the birth of your baby and can dispel many fears you may have. Personalized classes can allow you to focus on the items that are important to you.
Hospital tour
Seeing the place where you will be delivering puts you at ease. You can become familiar with the space and ask any questions you may have about the hospital.
Relaxation Techniques
Visualization is an effective comfort tool during labor. Spending a few minutes every day practicing conscious breathing, massage, and tension release can allow you to go back to that place when labor begins.
Birth Plan
A birth plan is not only a sheet listing what you would like to see happen at your birth. It is also the process of going through all the details and options available to you. It’s a good idea to think about things before you encounter them in labor, and allows you to get your questions answered.
